{wild wednesday} 2011: the year of the pig

| | |

This week is flying by and I’m so excited to present my favorite day all week in our new weekly line-up…

Of course, it may just be the graphic J created, but Hank is a WilD PiG on Wednesdays and up for just about anything! Be prepared for anything on Wednesdays—parties, tutorials, recipes, deposits or maybe “Behind the PiG!” You never know what this lil’ piggy will feature on “Wild Wednesday!”

For our first “Wild Wednesday,” I wanted to share something crazy so it was the perfect time to share all of the parties—both real and inspiration—we designed, styled or hosted, collaborations we did and all the free downloads we designed for our FaNs in 2011. Last year was a wild adventure and every time I thought I had listed all of the things we did…I remembered more. I suggest grabbing your favorite beverage and snack ‘cuz a PiG can do a LoT in 12 months!

Promiseland’s New Year’s Celebration

J and I volunteer with Promiseland, our church’s program for kids. In January, we were asked to create invitations and décor for Promiseland’s New Year’s Celebration which honors the volunteers. With a modest budget, we decorated the tables with 36″ silver snowflakes and paper lanterns lit with battery operated lights. Favors included jingles bells to ring in the new year!

Love Rocks! {Rockin’ Valentine’s Day}

We rocked our first collaboration of the year with Southern Belle’s Charm and a group of rockin’ party chicks. It was a huge success for us with features on Hostess with the Mostess, Kara’s Party Ideas and Catch My Party.

A Rockin’ Valentine’s Party

The Love Rocks collaboration was inspired by artwork by Frog Prince Paperie. Our tattoo-inspired contribution was so well received that we designed The Love Rocks Collection based on it. It’s one of our best selling collections for Valentine’s Day, baby showers, mom’s groups and bridal showers!

Pretty Pink Valentine Goodness

We collaborated with Pamela Smerker Designs (formally Party Starters) for a feature on Brenda’s Wedding Blog. The little pink “LOVE” banner is one of my favorites!

Doughnuts and Coffee

Our final Valentine’s collaboration for 2011 was with Dough-a-Deer and another bunch of talented party chicks. It was so fun to see my favorite illustration from 2011 featured on Pizzazzerie.

A Sweet Valentine’s Party

I designed a sweet {inspiration} party using our Sugar Cookie Valentines Collection. It was such a simple party to pull together and  it is one of my favorites!

Family Game Night

In February, we were asked to help with décor for our church’s Family Game Night. The giant dice were a huge hit!

This Lil’ Pig Does a Jig

We were feelin’ a lil’ green in March and created the O’Clover Collection as a {free download} for our FaNs.

A Springin’ Gingham Easter

We hopped into April with a sweet Easter {inspired} party. I love all the gingham and adore Winston, the bunny. Our infamous Paper Plate Backdrop made its debut at this party!

A Springin’ Gingham Celebration

I loved the Easter collection so much that I also created a Spring version complete with gingham flowers!

A Chic Zebra Party

We closed out April with an {inspiration} party based on the Zebra Chic Collection we designed for Cineca of Dreamin’ N Details. It was our first animal print set…but not our last!

A Mad Hatter’s Tea Party {coming soon}

We worked with Cineca of Dreamin’ N Details on another collection in May. The Mad Hatter Collection turned out to be our best seller in 2011 and is currently leading the sales in 2012. I’ll be sharing my lil’ tea party with you soon!

A Zoo Kroo for Two {coming soon}

Our friends, Cindy and Chip, were expecting their fourth child in late May around the time their twins were turning 4! We offered to help them plan Isabella and Isaac’s birthday party at the local zoo. The joy on their faces tells how big a success it was and I’ll take you on a trip to the zoo soon!

Patriotic Flair

We closed out May with a BanG and a {free download} for our FaNs just in time for Memorial Day!

A SuPeR Father’s Day

June flew in with a {free download} to honor all the SuPeR DaDs!

Kelly Loves Elly-phants {coming soon}

Every June we head into the city to celebrate with our friend, Kelly, on her birthday. This year we took her on a lil’ Chicago beach front picnic along Lake Michigan. Kelly loves elephants so I designed this lil’ party set in her honor.

Stars and Stripes Forever

At the end of June, we added a lil’ more Patriotic Flair to our {free downloads} in honor of Independence Day!

Sweet and Girlie Gingham

We created a Sweet and Girlie Gingham {inspiration} party for Celebrations at Home’s “Pink and Orange” Vendor Challenge. I loved designing the purse favor boxes, paper lanterns and party hats! Besides our feature on Celebrations at Home, The Party Wagon was so sweet to share our lil’ soirée on their blog.

S. S. North Shore

J and I were asked to design vignettes for our church’s summer kick-off event on the “S. S. North Shore.” Guests “boarded” a cruise ship which visited different ports of call. Using boxes, labels, ribbon and printables, we created vintage inspired suitcases. We stacked the suitcases and completed the vignettes with signage and faux tropical plants.

Two by Two {coming soon}

I designed a Noah’s Ark {inspiration} party based on a collection we created for a client. It is the first time I had ever used balloons for a photo shoot and they turned out to be one of my favorite elements about this design! We’ll be boarding the ark soon for a lil’ cruise with the animals.

Pucker Up for Your Sweetie!

July ended on a sweet and sour note with our {inspiration} party design for Pizzazzerie’s Summer Stripes Tablescape Contest. Our “Pucker Up for Your Sweetie” Bridal Shower took the Runner-Up position which completely took us by surprise! Besides our feature on Pizzazzerie, our sweet and sour shower was featured on Kara’s Party Ideas and Catch My Party.

Driver’s Drive-In {coming soon}

My favorite party this year was based on an idea I’ve been wanting to create for 2 years! “Driver’s Drive-In” opened (and closed) in August for this lil’ piggy’s birthday. We’ll take a drive in my convertible soon!

Oink! REE-Launch Party

Oink! REE-Launch Party

In honor of Oink!’s makeover and relaunch on August 31st, we designed 8 {free downloads} for our FaNs. Using the downloads, items from our pantry and things from around the house, I designed a “REE-Launch Party” in September with a party budget of $0! You read right…ZERO!

The Glow in the Dark Collection

Glowing in the Dark

The “Glow in the Dark” {inspiration} party was based on a collection we designed for a 13th birthday slumber party. The glowing table was filled with sweet treats I love—DarK ChocoLate!

A Hoot of a Halloween

October featured our first “Challenge Week” here on Oink! For my contribution, I created “A Hoot of a Halloween” {inspiration} party. I was thrilled when my lil’ owl party was featured on Pizzazzerie, Hostess with the Mostess, Catch My Party and Party and Event Guide!

Jack and the Beanstalk

I was honored to be asked to participate in the $100 Designer’s Challenge on Sparkling Events and Designs along side of 11 talented party chicks that I adore! I was ecstatic when “The Beanstalk” received the “Most Innovation Décor Idea” and our {inspiration} party tied for “Best Use of Budget.”

A Lil’ Witches Halloween

October ended with the Lil’ Witches flying by for a Halloween {inspiration} party! I brewed up three new party décor favorites when I designed witches hat favor boxes, witches shoes and Lil’ Witches cupcake stands. I also stirred up a lil’ toil and trouble on Catch My Party with more crafty creations—cauldrons, brooms and witches hats!

Celebrating a Happy Harvest

I decided to design THREE Thanksgiving tablescapes in November for Occasions Magazine’s Thanksgiving Table Designer Challenge. Autumn is my favorite time of year so I designed the Happy Harvest Trees (aka Happy Trees) to coordinate with our Happy Harvest Collection. I was overjoyed when the Happy Trees were featured on Huffington Post’s Stylelist Home.

A Quirky Turkey Day

Blessings continued to flow when my tablescape—“A Quirky Turkey Day”—was chosen as one of the ten finalists in Occasions Magazine’s Thanksgiving Table Designer Challenge. I had so much fun designing this table and hanging out the QT (Quirky Turkey)! We packed up the decorations from the photo shoot and took them with us to Georgia for our Thanksgiving  table décor. Our nieces and nephew loved following QT’s footprints to the table!

A Thanksgiving Heritage

Besides the beanstalk and the Quirky Turkey’s flying feathers, the edible centerpiece I created for the Thanksgiving Heritage table was my favorite. I loved using simple every day ingredients to design a modern and rustic tablescape.

Mrs. Claus’ Kitchen

December brought visions of sugar cookies dancing in my head to life! The “Mrs. Claus’ Kitchen” {inspiration} party was a big hit with last minute party hosts. It also marked the first time we did a photo shoot in our kitchen. It was a bit challenging to shoot but the 1930’s gingerbread woodwork was the perfect backdrop.

Build with the Enchanted Elves

On Christmas Eve, I shared a fun holiday {inspiration} party using our most popular Christmas collection. J could hardly wait for this photo shoot to be over so he could build his own ice cream sandwich with cookies and toppings! We added the “Build-a-Treat” placemat to the collection this year and it received the most comments from FaNs.

Setting the Mood with Décor

During the past year, I received countless questions about decorating for parties and creating backdrops. We needed to re-shoot our New Year’s Collection for The Market so I thought is was the perfect time to check two things off my to do list! The perfect ending to an amazing year was having my lil’ workshop featured on Pizzazzerie.

That’s it. A year with the PiG. It was fun to look back and see all of the amazing designs we were blessed to work on! I want to personally thank all of the party chicks and party blogs who posted and shared our work. Your friendship and support means the world to us! Most of all, thank YOU—our FaNs—for joining us on this lil’ adventure and we look forward to what 2012 has in store!
