{sweet-n-savory saturday} pulled pork sliders

Put on your apron and grab your slow cooker ‘cuz it’s…

Today Dorothy’s sharin’ a recipe that’s perfect for feeding sports fans who have FOOTBALL FEVER!

What would a football party be without sliders? I recently tweaked my yummy recipe for Super Easy Barbecue Pulled Pork for my sister’s Hawaiian birthday party. Since we weren’t having a Hawaiian pig roast (much to Hank’s relief!), we thought pulled pork sliders would fit the bill! They’re also an easy way to feed a bunch of hungry tailgaters!

Prep Time:  about 10 minutes

Cook Time:  4-6 hours in a large slow cooker

Yield: 40-48 sliders

Ingredients:

  • 5-6 lbs. of pork loin, trimmed of all visible fat
  • 5 Tbsps. of olive oil
  • 3 medium onions, chopped (about 1 1/2 cups)
  • 3 1/3 c. ketchup
  • 5 Tbsps. cider vinegar
  • 5 Tbsps. molasses
  • 1/2 c. + 2 tsps. packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 c. dry mustard
  • 5 tsps. garlic powder
  • 5 tsps. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp. black pepper
  • 2 c. chicken broth

Directions:

Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the pork loin and brown, turning occasionally until all sides are browned.

Meanwhile in slow cooker, combine onions, ketchup, vinegar, molasses, sugar, mustard powder, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce and black pepper.

Stir the mixture well then add the chicken broth and stir again.

Add the pork to the slow cooker including the browning juices from the skillet. Slow cook for 4-6 hours; checking occasionally to spoon sauce over the pork. I sometimes turn the pork over.

When the pork is falling apart, remove it to a cutting board and shred the meat with two forks. If you would like the sauce to be thicker, transfer to a saucepan and simmer to desired consistency. Return the pork and sauce to the cooker to serve or dish up onto slider buns and serve on a tray.

For the birthday party, we used King’s Hawaiian Rolls which are slightly sweet…and yummy! They can also be served with bread and butter pickles. Enjoy!
