{market monday} an ocean full of wishes

It may not really be Monday but it’s time for…

Besides sharing the “Special of the Week” every Monday, I’ll also be sharing either an {inspiration} party, {real} party or party ideas which coordinate with the featured product.

A few months ago, Brittany of GreyGrey Designs asked us to design an ocean inspired invitation and coordinating party décor for lil’ Emma Kate’s 1st birthday. Brittany created a beautiful inspiration board featured here which inspired our Ocean Blue Collection. Click here to see Emma Kate’s sweet lil’ birthday party by Brittany.

Recently, I created a lil’ ocean party to showcase the Ocean Blue Collection

A sign hanging on the front door or displayed near the party entrance sets the mood for the party. Are you ready to dive in?

I created the backdrop by cutting squares from the Ocean Blue Paper and attaching them to the center of white square plates. I used the top portion of the paper along the top row of plates and then the bottom edge of the paper along the bottom row. It was an easy way to create the illusion of being in the ocean.

I hung the banner on coordinating ribbon with mini clothes pins and finished off the backdrop with “bubbles” and fish!

I’m not sure when I got the idea…but I HAD to design a Fish Favor Box. I was so excited at how they turned out that I decided I must make a few different sizes to use for décor. They are one of the simplest boxes I’ve designed but I love that the ribbon used to close the box becomes the tail fin! I taped a loop of fishing line {giggle} inside the box and hung it on ribbon with a white paper clip. {You can see the paper clip if you look closely at the picture below.}

I layered my handy dandy white tablecloth with one of the burlap runners Aimee Broussard created for our Crew’s Valentine’s Day collaboration to mimic the ocean floor.

About 6 months ago I picked up three clear plastic containers on clearance at the Container Store for $1.99 each. They reminded me of bubbles and I knew we could use them a lot. I thought two tiny fish swimming inside of a bubble would make a cute centerpiece for the table! I taped fishing line to the inside of each lil’ fish and then taped the other end to the plastic top of the container. It needed a bit more height so I put an upside down clear bowl underneath it.

I used my faux cake pop maker to create “Bubbles-on-a-Stick” and for the first time dipped them in chocolate instead of covering them in buttercream. As many of you know, I am not a white chocolate fan but J LoVed them! I also made “Sea Urchins-on-a-Stick” which were faux cake pops covered with buttercream and coconut {my favorite!}. The faux cake pops were displayed in galvanized flower pots embellished with ribbon and a Lil’ Party Tag.

I added Lil’ Party Tags to the vanilla cupcakes accented with a large coral sprinkle and set them in a white ruffled cupcake wrapper.

To balance out all of the sweets, I wanted to add a lil’ salt to the menu.

What’s an ocean without a lil’ salt?

Fresh water!

{ba-dum-crash! “I’ll be here all week!”}

Seriously folks…I do love salty and sweet so white cheddar “Fish Bubbles” and “Deep Sea Coral” were the perfect addition!

I added more cupcakes and the Fish Favor Boxes to the ends of the table. The favor boxes work double-duty as décor and a favor for guests to take home.

The favor boxes were, of course, filled with Goldfish Crackers.

The artwork was another masterpiece by J, our illustrator. I wish you could see all of the teeny tiny details he put into the invitation. There are lil’ air bubbles rising from the sea anemone and you feel like you are actually swimming into the invitation!

If you’re planning to celebrate in the deep blue ocean, be sure to pick up the “Special of the Week!” The Ocean Blue Collection is on sale for $20.00 through Sunday, March 4, 2012 {a 33% savings}.

Thanks for takin’ a lil’ dip with me today!

    1. Thank YOU for such an amazing inspiration board! As soon as I saw it I knew exactly what we wanted to design for you. The lil’ fishes did turn out cute! The cheese puffs were leftover from a winter shoot. Before they became bubbles…they were snowballs! ♥

  1. Ohh I hope you share a tutorial on how you made the fish boxes! They are adorable! Love them. :)

  2. I always love your creativity, the fish tank is so cute! I like seeing how you added paper from the collection to your original paper background. The colors on this collection are just beautiful and so are the little fish boxes!!

    1. I finally had to take the lil’ fish bubble apart this weeknd…so sad! It was one of my favorite elements! oxox
