{magazine feature} sherbet & sunshine picnic buffet

We’re going on a picnic again today with Part Two of our Sherbet & Sunshine: An Indoor Picnic!

In case you missed it, you can see Part One here. Today I’m sharin’ the lil’ picnic buffet I created using furniture and accessories from different rooms in our house. If you follow me on Instragram or anywhere on social media, you know the hubs has been selling off most of our furniture since we’re downsizing from a house to an apartment. Needless to say, I had to get creative when setting up our buffet! I pulled a chest from the mudroom, a side table from our bedroom and a blanket rack (aka side of an old baby crib) from the living room as the foundation pieces for the buffet area.

I added a green gingham tablecloth to the blanket rack and hung the Sherbet-n-Sunshine Banner on twine with mini clothespins. Add in a few paper butterflies and some washi tape accents and Ta-Da! A perfectly whimsical backdrop!

The menu and how it was served was inspired by the Sherbet & Sunshine Invitation we created for Cineca of Dreamin’ N Details for her son’s adorable playdate seen here.

Lil’ baskets made from simple brown lunch bags held butterfly sandwiches wrapped in parchment, “butterfly” pretzel twists, clementine and a napkin. The baskets were embellished with a Sherbet & Sunshine Lil’ Party Tag and a mini clothespin.

The menu also included Ants on a Log (peanut butter and cream cheese versions), Vanilla Cupcakes, Orange Sherbet, Green Grapes, Green Apples and Lemonade. {Psst! If you add the Orange Sherbet to the Lemonade, it makes a delicious Citrus Float. YUM!}

The Green Grapes were served in hardware bags (usually used for nails and screws in hardware stores) which had been trimmed down with decorative scissors. A pop of color was adding by threading orange and yellow ribbon through punched holes.

A few handmade critters added the perfect finishing touch to the buffet!

  1. There is not one thing that I DON”T LOVE in this collection, (especially the colors)! However, the “woven” basket for the picnic food is just adorable!
